You may ask: what’s up with the seconds?

 

From the workmanship and material selection, the tents are generally first quality and without limitations.

The reason that they are classified as seconds lies in the PU-coating on the T/C (cotton blend) material in the upper ceiling area. There were irregularities during the coating process of this material: sometimes the coating was applied more thickly, sometime less. This unfortunately means that there may be leaky areas. The T/C blend, as opposed to pure cotton, which is used on the sides of the tent, does not expand when it is wet. Without the proper coating, the fabric is not watertight. In order to combat this issue, every tent is supplied with a litre of “tent mate” waterproofing solution. If you apply this before the first use, you will have no worries about leakage. However, we would like to make it clear here that we do not guarantee the waterproofing of the T/C for these tents. The application of the waterproof coating is very simple (see below). Tent Mate is made in Germany and ecologically based.

 

Applying Tent Mate:

 

You should apply it three times:

1.    Using a sponge, work in Tent Mate evenly over the clean, damp material. For the cotton blend (T/C) with PU-coating, it is important to always apply it to the UNCOATED (outer) layer! Let the material dry for 3-12 hours after application (depending upon the weight of the material).

2.    The first coating is used to stabilize the material.

3. The second two applications increase the waterproofing of the surface. Spread Tent Mate evenly in a thin layer over the material. After letting it dry briefly, repeat the application.
